Student theater is at the heart of Wesleyan's theater community.

Second Stage provides a space for students of all majors to put on musicals, plays, dance showcases, devised pieces, and more. Classic and original pieces all live and thrive on Wesleyan stages.

Fall 2018 Season in Review

Looking to get involved?

Sometimes student theater can be intimidating. There are a plentitude of ways to get involved in Wesleyan productions, and we want to help you participate as much as you want to!

+ Act in a show.

Second Stage does not manage auditions, but student productions usually hold auditions right at the beginning of each semester. We try our best to compile as much info as we can (pretty much just by looking at Facebook!), so check out our auditions page to see this season's audition schedule.

+ Design for a show.

When students submit show proposals, we require that they already have assembled their entire design team. Once a season begins, it can therefore be difficult to get involved as a designer on student productions.

If you're just looking for a place to get introduced to theater design, you should reach out to this seasons' directors to see if you can assistant-design. Please reach out to the relevant staff member if you're struggling to get involved and we will see what we can do to help out!

We also collect the names of individuals interested in designing, which you can learn more about here. Note that this does not assure you will be given a design position on a show; that requires getting involved and interacting in Wesleyan's theater community.

+ Direct your own production.

Second Stage accepts show applications for the following season during certain points of the semester. We go through all of the applicants to curate the new season after reviewing creative teams, proposed shows, and what holistically makes sense to put up during the next season.

For more information, please check out our Show Apps page to know when we're next accepting show proposals and what you need to include in your application.

+ Write your own show.

AnyStage is our program to offer readings of original works and ultimately produce full productions of student plays and musicals. While we don't require workshopping your original work before seeking a full production, AnyStage is a safe environment to fine-tune your ideas and save time making changes during future rehearsals.

Learn more about AnyStage here.

+ Join Second Stage staff.

Second Stage accepts applications for new staff members twice every semester. Keep checking in if you'd like to join staff, and please contact us if you're particularly interested in helping out!

+ Help out with theater tech.

We are always short on people who want to help hang lights, build sets, and more. These jobs usually don't require as much commitment as design positions, so they're perfect if you're just looking to get involved in Wesleyan's theater community and make new friends.

To help out on shows, please contact one of our staff members and we'll do our best to get you on a team!

It is with sincere respect that Second Stage and the Wesleyan Department of Theater acknowledges that the Patricelli '92 Theater occupies the traditional indigenous homeland of the Wangunk people.
