Sign up via this form to get on our Listserv (email newsletter), where other students will ask for people to work on shows and advertise opportunities to get involved in Wesleyan's theater community. This is the easiest way to get involved in theater at Wes. If you'd like to get more creatively involved, the next step would be to join the crew for someone's show. If you would explore the administrative side of student theater, think about applying for Second Stage staff!
NOTE: by signing up via this form, you will not automatically be put on the crew for any Second Stage productions. That requires you to go out there and offer your skills to people! This form is just to gauge interest and if a show ever asks for recommendations for a certain role, we may recommend people based on their responses below.
WHAT IS SECOND STAGE?
Second Stage is a student organization that facilitates student theater in a learning environment. Every semester, Second Stage staff approves several shows (usually around 10 to 11) to go up around campus throughout the season. Shows get the opportunity to use exclusive campus spaces like the '92 Theater and other performing spaces, as well as access to reasonable budgets and a slew of helpful materials including costumes, props, sound and lighting equipment, and more.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
Getting involved with Second Stage means (for the most part) working on a Second Stage show! This is usually a creative process, where students direct, design, and act in their own productions of musicals, plays, dances, and devised performances. Shows can be original or derived (i.e. not written by a Wesleyan student), and everything ends up amazing.
To get on the team for a show, you need to offer your skills and resources to the people who are putting on shows! Second Stage shows usually get approved with full teams, so it's in your best interest to seek out directors looking to fill positions prior to the show's approval. We will not automatically put you on the team for any Second Stage productions, but if you sign up via this form and a show asks for a particular skillset, we may recommend people based on their responses below.
The other way to get involved with Second Stage is to be on Second Stage staff. Note: this is NOT a creative position. Second Stage staff members work on facilitating student theater by advising on budgets, technology, performance spaces, and all the administrative aspects of student theater. (We love our Saturday strikes!) This also means that staff members are often some of the busiest people on campus, but we wouldn't be on staff if we weren't doing what we love.
Please check the Listserv, Facebook, and our website for more information on how to sign up once applications are out!
